About Amy

For most of my life, I didn’t really know who I was. Every time a piece of myself tried to surface, I squashed it down because it terrified me. Even then I had the sense that my true self didn’t really fit in with how the world supposedly worked.

This kept me safe from sticking out too much, but it also made me not trust myself. I forced myself through work and situations I thought I had to do even though everything inside me was screaming not to do it. It didn’t seem like there was an alternative… until I got so sick that I could no longer deny that things weren’t working and something had to change.

Unfortunately, this is an incredibly common story. I see it all over the internet to the point where it doesn’t even feel that unique to write about it here. Most of us were taught not to trust ourselves in one way or another, and many of us have paid the price of that through mental or physical health crises, even if we are good at hiding it.

This blog is about three things:

  1. Learning to see your true self more clearly, without judgement
  2. Trusting what your true self is telling you, even when it isn't logical
  3. Believing that your true self is worthy of love and existing in the world, especially when that version of you doesn’t “fit in”

Working on these three things that has led me to a greater sense of purpose and healing (both physically and mentally) and I’m convinced that if everyone focused on these things, we would live in a better and more loving world.

My posts are stories and examples from my own life, because example is a powerful way to learn and recognize shifts that might be helpful in your own life. I don’t expect your journey to be the same as mine or for each and every thing I say to apply to you. The purpose is for you to see another point of view on this thing called life, take what does feel relevant, and hopefully enjoy the rest.
